On this tour we will be visiting some producers making high quality wines with grapes grown on the volcanic soils around Mount Etna.

We will taste red wines (Etna Rosso) from indigenous varieties Marello Mascalese and Nerrelo Cappuccio and whites (Etna Bianco) from Catarratto and Carricante. The richness of the soil allows other grapes to grow well and modern producers are exploiting this. We will ride on the FCE (Ferrovia Circumetnea) and see the wonderful scenic views. We will also spend one day in the Syracuse region visiting a high calibre winery and the town itself.

Monday 6^th October 2025

Our tour is designed to link up with the British Airways flight BA2610 from Gatwick which is schedule to arrive at Catania airport at 11:20. We will meet in the arrivals hall and then head off to our first visit at Barone di Villagrande near Milo for a winery visit, tasting and lunch.

We will then head back to Catania to check in at our hotel, the boutique Hotel Habitat. The evening is at leisure and there are many restaurants in Catania and we will supply a list of recommendations.

Tuesday 7^th October 2025    

After breakfast we will head towards Etna, there will be an optional very short and easy trek on the slopes of Etna which we appreciate may not appeal to everybody but it is very interesting.

We will visit two wineries, one for a tasting and lunch and one for a tasting only. We will shortly be identifying which of the many wineries to visit but certainly hope to include Planeta.

We then head back to our hotel in Catania for a free evening.

Wednesday 8^th October 2025          

Today we will be heading for Syracuse where we will visit the Pupillo winery for a tasting. Our bus will then take us to the centre of Syracuse where we will stop for lunch. We then take a tour of Syracuse with a guide.

We then head back to our hotel in Catania for a free evening.

Thursday 9^th October 2025 

Today we will be taking an exciting journey on the FCE, the Ferrovia Circumetnea. This is the scenic train which circumnavigates Etna. We will be visiting two wineries, one to include lunch and be accompanied by a local English speaking guide. The scenery is fabulous and, weather permitting, so are the views of Etrna.

We then return to the hotel for a “farewell dinner” at a local restaurant in Catania.

Friday 10^th October 2025     

Sadly, after breakfast we will leave the hotel to travel back to Catania airport in good time to connect with the British Airways flight BA2611 which departs at 12:40 and arrives back at Gatwick at 15:00 local time.
