Mendoza – the wine capital of Argentina

Monday 2nd  to Sunday 8th March 2026

Mendoza City is located in the northern central part of the province of Mendoza in a region of foothills and high plains on the eastern side of the Andes. It is often used as a stopover for climbers going to Aconcagua. 

Two of the main industries of the Mendoza area are olive oil and wine and the region around Greater Mendoza is the largest wine producing area in all of South America and it is in Mendoza City, known as one of the Great Wine Capitals, where we will be based for exploring the vineyards of the region.

Arrival will be at Mendoza airport which can be accessed from Buenos Aires or Santiago de Chile for example.

    Tour Itinerary

    Day 1 – Monday 2nd March 2026

    Welcome & Dinner Viña Cobos.

    Transfer from Mendoza Airport to Hotel

    In late afternoon visit and dinner at Viña Cobos. The Viña Cobos Winery faces the Tupungato mountain and the design for this state-of-the-art facility uses large simple, geometric forms, open space and natural light. Viña Cobos is the inspiration of Californian winemaker Paul Hobbs. Return to the hotel after dinner.

    Day 2 – Tuesday 3rd March 2026

    Classic: Luján de Cuyo.

    Mendoza River Area

    An ancient and traditional wine region is located at the Luján de Cuyo and Maipú departments. They are collectively known as “the first wine area” of Argentine wines. Malbec is the signature wine variety of this area, and even the province and the country, but  Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc also stand out.

    Our first visit and tasting is at Catena Zapata. Nicolás Catena Zapata is recognized as the pioneer of the production of wines of quality in Mendoza and in 2001 they inaugurated their new cellar, Catena Zapata, inspired by Mayan architecture. The Cellar Catena Zapata is located in the area of Agrelo, in Mendoza at 950m above sea level. 

    In the afternoon we visit Bodega Lagarde- Zonda for a Tasting and lunch. Bodega Lagarde's story goes back to the beginning of the grape growing and wine industry in Mendoza. Established in 1897 and managed by the Pescarmona family Lagarde pioneered implementation of non-traditional varieties such as Viognier and Moscato Bianco.

    Return to the hotel.

    Day 3 – Wednesday 4th March 2026

    Wineries in Maipú. Architecture & History.

    Maipú district is sometimes called la cuna del vinoor the “wine cradle”, where we find some of the country’s oldest wineries. Here Malbec represents 34% of the production with other common varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

    In the morning we will visit and taste at Bodega Benegas.  The winery was built in 1901 by Agustin Alvarez, then governor of the Mendoza province and it is one of the few old Mendoza historic relics from the end of the nineteenth century.

    We then visit and lunch at Finca El Paraíso. Wine tastings are often conducted among the vines as we get the chance to enjoy nature. Return to the hotel.

    Day 4 – Thursday 5th March 2026

    Wineries in Chacras de Coria & Vistalba.

    In the morning we visit and taste at Bodegas Rosell Boher. After more recent investment in new technology, Rosell Boher has become an ideal cellar for the fermentation of its sparkling wines.

    We then visit and taste at Bodega Riccitelli. Matías Riccitelli was born in Cafayate - Salta, and developed as a winemaker in Mendoza creating Riccitelli Wines in 2009. The winery is located in Las Compuertas at 1100 meters above sea level, the highest area of ​​the traditional Luján de Cuyo, where they have 20 hectares of vines.

    In the early afternoon we visit and lunch at Bodega Durigutti. The Durigutti Family are viticulturists and wine makers with the tradition of European culture and the winery, built in 1959, is located in the heart of Lujan de Cuyo, in the district of Las Compuertas. The first Malbec in Argentina was born from here and it is currently one of the micro-regions in the process of revaluation with precious century-old vineyards.

    Return to the hotel.

    Day 5 – Friday 6th March 2026

    Wineries in Valle de Uco.

    The Uco Valley covers the highest vineyards of the province: up to 1,700 meters above sea level. Tupungato, Tunuyán and San Carlos are located in this area. Characterized by top quality red and white wine production, wines grown in this region are suitable for prolonged ageing. The typical wine varieties of this area are Semillon and Malbec, but Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, and Syrah have been recently planted, with excellent results.

    In the morning we will visit and taste at Salentein. The cellars are more than 1,200 meters above sea level, surrounded by vineyards in the foothills of the Andes, the are the cellars.  

    We will then travel on for a visit and lunch at Bemberg where we take in a traditional Argentinian barbecue. Return to the hotel.

    Day 6 – Saturday 7th March 2026

    Wineries in Valle de Uco.

    Our first visit and tasting will be at Flechas de los Andes. Named Flechas de los Andes in homage to the five arrows that symbolise The Rothschild Family, the winery was created through the partnership of Baron Benjamin de Rothschild and Laurent Dassault. Here, Malbec has found an ideal place to thrive.

    In the afternoon we visit and lunch at Bodega Piedra Infinita, the new Zuccardi winery.

    Later on we visit and dine at SuperUco. Super Uco is a new project from winemakers the Michelini brothers. The Michelini family has been dominating the wine scene in the Uco Valley for years, but with this new project, a small biodynamic winery, they are experimenting with different varietals and aging techniques, including oversize amphoras and concrete eggs.

    Day 7 - Sunday 8th March 2026 

    Departure.

    Transfer from hotel to Mendoza Airport.
