South African wine tour

Wine Tour in South Africa March 2027

Sunday 28th February to Sunday 7th March 2027.

We have run several tours to the Winelands of South Africa in recent years. They are a beautiful place to visit at the best of times and late summer is always a great time after the main tourist season is almost over. It is generally warm with little rainfall. Many tours have featured the more well-known districts of Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. This time we will be visiting the Somerset West, Hermanus and Robertson regions.

At the time of writing South Africa offers excellent value for money compared to many other long-distance destinations.

We will meet up for dinner at our Somerset West Hotel where Vivienne Franks will start to take us on this remarkable odyssey which will give us the chance to sample some of the best wines South Africa has to offer. Great scenery, food and wines will be the hallmark of our trip.

We will visit leading producers in Somerset West before enjoying the scenic drive to Hermanus, once a thriving fishing village but now the gateway to the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (Heaven and Earth) which is a cool climate region and at the moment the best place to be growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in South Africa. There are some world-class examples to taste and one of our visits will include an excellent wine and food matching event at Creation Wines.

Another scenic drive will take us to the Roberston region which will be our third base and is well known for great Sparkling wines (Method Cap Classique) as well as Chardonnays.

If you are unfamiliar with the quality then be prepared for a surprise. In recent years South Africa has been producing wines of world class quality and we will be taking you to meet some of the key players in the industry.

The range of different grapes used is broad and there are whites, reds and sparkling wines (Method Cape Classique) to savour.

We will end the tour at Cape Town International Airport where you can choose to extend your trip visiting the “Mother City” or even an extension on safari. We can help you with these if you wish.

Your wine guide will be our own Vivienne Franks. Vivienne has been to South Africa many times and knows the lie of the land well, she will be using her network of contacts to ensure a great experience. She is a judge in the premier wine competition in South Africa, the Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards.
