Riquwihr Wine break in Asace

Wine Break in Alsace – 2nd to 5th October 2019

Alsace is one of our favourite regions of France – great scenery, great food, and great wine!  The wines are mainly full-flavoured, dry whites which are a perfect match for the rich cuisine of the region. But there are also sparkling wines, reds made from Pinot Noir and some delicious dessert wines.  Alsace is the gastronomic capital of France and there are more Michelin starred restaurants here than in any other region, so let out your waistbands and prepare to indulge!  The ‘fairy-tale’ picture postcard villages have cobbled streets lined with timber-framed houses and are a delight to wander round.

During this tour, we will be staying in a 4-star hotel in the historic town of Colmar for 3 nights, and during our 4 days will be visiting a variety of wineries to discover the range of styles that the region can offer.

We will be choosing winery yisits from a short-list of top Alsace producers including Blanck, Deiss, Gresser, Josmeyer, Rolly Gassmann, Schlumberger, Sipp-Mack, Trimbach and Zinck.

The tour starts and finishes at Mulhouse/Basel airport, the nearest international airport to Colmar. We have set start and finish times to connect with direct flights between London Heathrow and Mulhouse/Basel operated by British Airways, as follows:-

  • Wednesday 2nd October – BA0752 departing Heathrow 08h.25 arriving Mulhouse/Basel 11h.00
  • Saturday 5th October – BA 0755 departing Mulhouse/Basel 18h.40 arriving Heathrow 19h.20

    Outline itinerary

    Wednesday 2nd October

Assemble at Mulhouse/Basel Airport for an 12h.00 departure by executive coach for Colmar.  We stop on the way for lunch (cost included) and then visit a top producer in the town of Guebwiller, where our hosts will take us a tour of their winery and introduce us to the wines of the region.  We then complete our journey to Colmar and check in to our hotel in the centre of the town, our base for the next three nights.

Your evening is free.  There are plenty of good restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel.

    Thursday 3rd October

After a leisurely breakfast, we board our coach for the short journey north to the town of Ribeauvillé where we visit one of our favourite Alsace producers.  After lunch at a nearby restaurant (cost included), we visit another winery in the town before returning to Colmar at end of the afternoon.

    Your evening is again free.

    Friday 4th October

Today, we visit two wineries near the town of Kaysersberg.  Lunch will be provided (cost included).

Your evening will again be free.

    Saturday 5th October

After checking out of our hotel, we head up into the hills to the west of Colmar for a morning visit.  We have lunch at the winery or a nearby restaurant (cost included).  After a final visit, our coach takes us south to Mulhouse/Basel airport, where the tour ends.

Changes to the itinerary: Please note that, on rare occasions, we may have to make changes to the itinerary for reasons beyond our control.
